What are warts?
Warts are small, non-cancerous growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are several types of warts, including common, plantar, flat, and genital warts. Warts are usually harmless and often go away on their own, but they can be unsightly or cause discomfort, especially if they are in a location that is prone to friction or pressure.
Common warts typically appear on the hands, fingers, or around the nails. Plantar warts occur on the soles of the feet and can be painful when walking or standing. Flat warts are small, smooth warts often appear in clusters on the face, arms, or legs. Genital warts are warts that appear on the genitals and are sexually transmitted.
Warts are contagious and can be spread through direct contact with the wart or surfaces that have come into contact with the virus. Treatment for warts may include over-the-counter medications, prescription treatments, or in-office procedures such as cryotherapy (freezing the wart), laser therapy, or surgical removal. We recommend you consult with a doctor at our clinics for proper diagnosis and treatment of warts.
