Medicinal Cannabis

What is Medicinal Cannabis?

Medicinal cannabis refers to the use of cannabis and its cannabinoids, such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), for the treatment of various medical conditions. Cannabis has been used for its medicinal properties for thousands of years and is known to have pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and anti-nausea effects, among others.

In recent years, there has been growing interest in the use of medicinal cannabis for conditions such as chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Medicinal cannabis is available in different forms, including oils, capsules, sprays, and dried plant material.

The legal status of medicinal cannabis varies in many countries, including Australia. Under certain conditions, it can be prescribed by registered medical practitioners. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulates medicinal cannabis products in Australia and provides guidelines for their prescription and use.

It’s important to note that while medicinal cannabis shows promise for specific medical conditions, more research is needed to understand its effectiveness and safety fully. As with any medication, the use of medicinal cannabis should be discussed with a doctor who can provide guidance based on individual circumstances and medical history.

How we provide this service:

We prefer a face-to-face first appointment for a thorough assessment. We understand that in certain situations, it is hard to travel, especially if you suffer from severe medical conditions and live in rural and remote South Australia. After assessing your medical condition, the doctor will suggest suitable medication. The practitioner will lodge the applications with the South Australian authorities and TGA if agreed upon. Once the doctor receives the approvals, the electronic script can be sent to you or your regular pharmacy. Although the process is swift these days, it can take up to one week in certain situations.
