Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a pinched median nerve at the wrist. The median nerve runs from your upper arm and into your hand. It controls the feeling and movement in your thumb and the first three fingers.

Management

If Conservative management like anti-inflammatory medication, splinting, physio, Ultrasound guided injections fails, surgical options can be considered.

Why Choose Us?

We are a cost-effective option for performing this surgery in private, bypassing the long waiting time for surgical intervention in the Public system. Data shows that prolonged compression of the median nerve can lead to permanent nerve damage and decreased effectiveness of surgery in relieving symptoms.

How do we do it

We do open surgery through a small 2 cm incision under Local Anaesthetic. The patient has to come to the clinic 10 minutes before surgery. Surgery takes around 30-40 minutes. A crepe bandage is applied on the hand for seven days. Sutures are removed in 7-10 days.

Who is performing this surgery

Dr Sanjeev Sabharwal at Paragon, Tailem Bend and Murray Bdrige clinics

Post op Recovery

It varies from patient to patient. We encourage hand mobilisation exercises soon after surgery. Most patients return to office work in 7-10 days, but it may take six weeks to return to heavy manual work.

Cost

In addition to the Medicare rebate, a gap of $550 is payable on the day of surgery. Once you pay the total amount, our staff will assist you in getting the Medicare rebate back to your account via Easyclaim.
